Tuesday, August 28, 2012 Kasich says he'll largely wing it on tonight's RNC stage Ohio governor says it's his style by WKSU's M.L. SCHULTZE This story is part of a special series.

 | | Gov. Kasich says he'll keep up his extemporaneous style. |
In The Region: Ohio’s Gov. John Kasich will take the stage at the Republican National Convention tonight to talk about a recovering economy. And the governor famous for speaking off the cuff insists the tightly structured Mitt Romney organization will be giving him some latitude. WKSU’s M.L. Schultze has more from Tampa. |
Gov. Kasich notes that this is not the first time he’s been on the convention stage. He’s given speeches twice before and he acknowledges …
“Ahh, the two … at which I spoke didn’t go all that great.”
Kasich says the problem is that he needs awhile to warm up. And he acknowledges he won’t have much time tonight – seven to eight minutes to talk about economics. But he says the organizers seem willing to trust his instincts.
“I have sort of a little outline, sort of the way I deliver the state of the states. They’ve loaded some stuff, kind of the outline into the teleprompter. I probably won’t use that. “
In all, Kasich’s been attending conventions since 1976, which he calls “the greatest convention we’ve ever had,” and where he first connected with Ronald Reagan.
