  • Missing money from Warrensville Hts. schools
A state audit shows about 13-thousand dollars in student fees are missing from a Cleveland-area school district. The audit shows most of the money from Warrensville Heights came from the Class of 2010’s payments for their high school prom, graduation and yearbook sales, which were never deposited in the bank.  The Plain Dealer reports district officials alerted auditors to the missing fees when they were short money to cover prom bills for that year. School officials say procedures have since been put in place to make sure money is accounted for, including setting up an audit committee. The audit also found the district used about 30-thousand dollars in Title I findings set aside for disadvantaged students on salaries and travel expenses

    Wife shooter pleads not guilty
A Stark County man accused of shooting his wife in an Akron hospital has pleaded not guilty. 66-year old John Wise of Massillon appeared in court this morning on aggravated murder charges. Police say he shot his wife, Barbara, at Akron General Medical Center August 4th in a mercy killing. The judge reduced his bond to 500-thousand dollars.

Kasich asks CSU boardmember to resign
Gov. John Kasich has asked a student representative to Cleveland State University's governing board to resign because he was accused of punching a police officer last year.
The Plain Dealer reports that 27-year-old Alexander Butler has not yet responded to the Aug. 14 letter from Kasich's office. His attorney declined to comment.
Butler, who had served in the Army in Iraq, was appointed to a non-voting position on the university's board of trustees in October 2011.
A few weeks after applying, he was stopped for driving erratically. The police report said he punched an officer at the station. He later pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and was put on probation.
Butler apologized in a letter to Kasich's office in November.
