  • President begins another Ohio campaign swing
President Obama has landed in Columbus for his second visit to the Buckeye state this month and his third this summer.  Air Force One landed about an hour ago, and the president was greeted by campaign volunteers, former U.S. Rep. Zack Space and the head of the Ohio AFI-CIO, Timothy Burga.

At an outdoor rally at Capital University at 1 p.m., he’ll be highlighting the differences between his plans and those of Mitt Romney to create jobs and cut the deficit.  His campaign said this morning that during President Obama’s first four years in office, he’s cut taxes for “typical” Ohioans by $3,500.

Ohio corn crop worse than expected
Ohio’s  corn yield has dropped more than the U.S. Department of Agriculture had been forecasting as recently as 10 days ago.

Average yields in the western two-thirds of the state are down 29 percent over the average of the last three years. The government had predicted a 20 percent drop due to the draught that has hit the region. Ohio is the eighth-largest corn producing state in the country.

    Toledo hot dog fight continues
A former owner of an Ohio hot dog eatery made famous on the TV series "M-A-S-H" is trying again to regain control of the company.

He's asking an appeals court in Toledo to nullify the sale of Tony Packo's.

Robin Horvath is one of two cousins who have fought for more than a year over the ownership of Tony Packo's after a bank foreclosed on its loans and a court-appointed third party was put in charge.

Representatives of a private restaurant group in Toledo finalized their purchase of the chain in February.

Tony Packo's became a household name in the 1970s when actor Jamie Farr portrayed a homesick U.S. soldier in the Korean War who longed for Packo's hot dogs.

    Cleveland Ponzi scheme sentencing
A northeast Ohio woman has pleaded guilty and been sentenced to nine years in prison for bilking nearly 900 elderly investors out of $60 million Joanne Schneider was pitching a failed Cleveland development project that prosecutors said was nothing more than a Ponzi scheme .  Schneider will get credit for the 2 ½ years she's already served.

HEAP helps thousands more this year
A state program to help lower-income people with summer cooling costs has reached 66,000 Ohioans this year — half-again as many as last year. The HEAP Summer Crisis Program through the Ohio Department of Development helped 40,000 Ohioans in 2011.
