Ohio Friday, August 17, 2012 Ohio judges are fighting redistricting panel They argue it will politicize the judiciary by WKSU's STATEHOUSE CORRESPONDENT JO INGLES |
 Reporter Jo Ingles | | |
In The Region: The Ohio Court of Appeals Judges Association is opposing State Issue 2 - the proposed state constitutional amendment changing how Ohio's congressional and legislative maps are drawn.
Carlo LaParo, a spokesman for the group, says the judges think it's a bad idea for voters to approve the recommended changes, which would put judges partially in charge of appointing members of an indepdent commission charged with drawing the lines. |
"What this amendment does is it politicizes the judicary in the most unfortunate way. And what the court and the legal community is saying is. 'Hey wait a minute. This is improper. It sets up a conflict of interest and it throws us into a highly politicized process. No thank you.'"
Last week, the Ohio State Bar Association also came out against the proposal.
