Arts and Entertainment Tuesday, August 14, 2012 Cedar Point announces new coaster Park will open world's longest winged ride in May 2013 by WKSU's KELLI FITZPATRICK | Reporter Kelli Fitzpatrick | | |
In The Region: Cedar Point is bringing the world’s longest winged roller coaster to its park next summer.
The amusement park announced plans this week for the GateKeeper, a nearly 4,200-foot long ride with speeds of 67 mph. The winged coaster will have seats that extend sideways from the track, leaving riders’ feet dangling.
Cedar Point spokeswoman Annie Zelm says the coaster will offer park goers a unique ride. |
“The wonderful thing about this ride is that it really provides a different experience each time you ride it, depending on where you sit. So we think this is a ride our guests will want to come back to again and again.”
The Gatekeeper will be Cedar Point’s first new coaster since the Maverick in 2007. It’s part of a $30 million project to revamp the park’s entrance.
Construction is already under way, and the coaster will be open for riders in May. |
