Ohio Tuesday, August 7, 2012 Ohio will bring in more tax money than expected $69 million will go to state's coffers by WKSU's STATEHOUSE BUREAU CHIEF KAREN KASLER |
 Reporter Karen Kasler | | |
| More tax money is coming into the state than was predicted. The Office of Budget and Management says July revenues from the personal income tax, the commercial activity tax, the sales tax and other taxes are up five percent over estimates. That means $69 million more in the state’s coffers in July than was estimated. OBM director Tim Keen is cautiously pleased. |
“Some of the overage is likely the result of timing of receipts. There’s some strengths here that’s probably not sustainable over the course of the year, particularly in the personal income tax receipts. So it’s good news to be above the estimate, but we’ll have to review this as we get further months’ information to see what it tells us.”
The state’s expected year-end balance is now estimated at $552 million. Keen says while Gov. John Kasich has talked about cutting the state income tax, he doubts that only one month of revenues over estimates would have an impact on pushing that forward right now. |
