Government Thursday, August 2, 2012 Demolition funds headed to Cuyahoga County Money is part of Attorney General's mortgage fraud settlement by WKSU's OZIE IKUENOBE | Reporter Ozie Ikuenobe | | |
In The Region: Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason has listed 12 cities that will share one million dollars earmarked for demolition of blighted properties.
The money is part of a $5 million dollar grant the Prosecutor made available to the Cuyahoga County Land Reutilization Corporation. An additional $5 million in matching comes from the Ohio Attorney General’s Moving Ohio Forward Demolition Program.
Nicole DiSanto, a spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office, said that the cities awarded money from the grant had applied for it based on their individual need for demolition. |
“Each city or region was able to submit an application, depending on the needs of the specific area, how well they planned out and explained where they were going to spend those monies, the amount they asked for; those were things that the committee used to base their decision.” The money is part of a mortgage fraud settlement by Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine. Most cities will receive about $100,000, but Lakewood, North Royalton and North Olmsted will get half that much. |
