Tuesday, July 31, 2012 Presidential candidates connect with supporters through apps Smart phone users can download applications and access campaign announcements by WKSU's STATEHOUSE CORRESPONDENT JO INGLES This story is part of a special series.

| The two major presidential campaigns are hoping Ohioans with smart phones will show their support by downloading their campaign apps. Ohio Public Radio’s Jo Ingles reports. |
Both President Obama and his challenger, Republican Mitt Romney, are offering smart phone apps to their supporters. Romney says those with the app will be the first to know who he chooses as his running mate. And Obama says he’ll be sending out important information about his campaign and voter education. And both campaigns will likely use the apps to rally their supporters. This isn’t the first time politicians have used new technology to try to connect with high tech voters. In 2008, Obama announced his running mate via a text message to supporters. But email was so yesterday that in 2010, Former Governor Ted Strickland and Current Governor John Kasich announced their running mates via the internet. |
