Sports Friday, July 27, 2012 Browns are negotiating a sale, but promise they're not moving Tennessee businessman Jimmy Haslam III to buy team from Randy Lerner by WKSU's KABIR BHATIA and M.L. SCHULTZE |

In The Region: Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner has confirmed he’s negotiating with Tennessee businessman Jimmy Haslam III to buy all – or most – of the team.
And team President Mike Holmgren says negotiations include a promise that the team will not move.
Joel Hammond of Crain’s Cleveland Business expects the sale will allow Lerner to concentrate on his British soccer team, which has suffered huge financial losses in recent years. |
“I don’t think it’s a money issue. The Browns are incredibly profitable. It might just be a time when he thinks he can maximize his profits from selling the team. Perhaps he thinks that he has the right people in place now, there’s some stability in the organization, where it’s a time for him to move on.”
The Browns have another 18 seasons left on their lease at Browns stadium. Haslam owns a minority stake in the Pittsburgh Steelers, and recently declared himself a one-thousand percent fan of the Browns’ bitter rival. |
