  • Funeral set for Ohio man killed in Colorado massacre
An Ohio man who was among the dozen people killed in the Colorado theater massacre Friday will be buried this weekend near Dayton. Twenty-seven-year-old Matthew McQuinn  died as he tried to protect his girlfriend, Samantha Yowler, from bullets fired believed to be fired by  James Holmes. Yowler was among the 58 people injured in the shooting spree. The Springfield News-Sun says calling hours for will be Friday at the Springfield church he attended before moving to Colorado last year. His funeral is Saturday.

    Dimora vs. Russo sentencing arguments
Federal prosecutors say former Cuyahoga County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora should get more than the 22-year sentence his one-time compatriot Frank Russo got in a massive public corruption scandal. They say that’s because Russo took responsibility for accepting huge bribes, while Dimora is still denying he did anything wrong.  But in their written arguments to U.S. District Judge Sarah Lioi, Dimora’s attorneys say his crimes pale beside Russo’s, and that he gave a lifetime of loyal public service to Cuyahoga County. The sentencing is scheduled for next Monday.

    Youngstown sergeant's court martial begins
A court martial at Fort Bragg, N. C., has started for a Youngstown-area Army sergeant accused of playing a major role in the suicide of a fellow soldier.

Sgt. Adam Holcomb is going before a military judge today on charges including negligent homicide. He faces nearly 18 years in prison if he’s convicted of all the charges tied to the suicide of Danny Chen, who shot himself to death in Afghanistan. Military officials have charged eight soldiers who they say had physically and emotionally abused Chen because he’s a Chinese-American.

    Statehouse historic fence
The state is reaching back to the 19th century for a new security fence that will surround three sides of the historic Statehouse. The Columbus Dispatch says t the purchase of 1,000 feet of black powder-coated metal fencing will cost close to $400,000. It will resemble the fence that surrounded the Statehouse from 1873 to 1964.

Northeast Ohio Olympians are in London
Nearly a dozen Northeast Ohioans are in London this week to compete in Olympic events that include rowing, hammer throw and the steeple chase.

The Ohio representatives include some big names – the biggest of which is Akron native Lebron James. But they also include Lee Kiefer, a Cleveland native who is competing in fencing.
