Economy and Business Monday, July 16, 2012 Most Americans say auto-bailout was good Study finds 61 percent of people think the 2009 auto-rescue President Obama oversaw was good for the economy. by WKSU's SIMON HUSTED | Reporter Simon Husted | | |
| A new survey shows most Americans think the 2009 auto-bailout that President Obama oversaw was good for the economy.
The president highlighted the rescue during his speech in Cincinnati today (Monday), the same day the Alliance for American Manufacturing released its new survey.
Mark Mellman of the Mellman Group did the survey with Northstar Opinion Research. He says of the twelve-hundred people asked, 61 percent said it was good the government loaned money to Chrysler and GM to help them emerge from bankruptcy. |
“And again, that positive view of the auto rescue is not something that is confined to the Midwest,” Mellman says. “It is the Northeast, the West and even in the South, we see majorities of voters saying that the auto-rescue was actually a good idea.”
Still, about 35 percent of the people surveyed said the auto-bailout was a mistake. The survey also asked if the quality of U.S. cars has improved since 2009. About 57 percent said yes while 13 percent said they’ve gotten worse. |
