Health and Medicine Tuesday, July 10, 2012 Nursing homes could be targets for drug theft Ohio Attorney General DeWine says nurses were caught stealing painkillers by WKSU's STATEHOUSE CORRESPONDENT BILL COHEN |
 Reporter Bill Cohen | | |
| Ohio has been cracking down on shady doctors and pharmacists who have run pill mills and improperly distributed addictive pain medicine. With that source of illegal prescription medicine drying up, Ohio’s attorney general believes that addicts and profiteers will now turn to another setting to get their meds: nursing homes. Statehouse correspondent Bill Cohen files this report. |
DeWine notes that three nurses in Pomeroy nursing home were caught by a hidden camera, stealing medicine. DeWine also cites the case of nursing home resident Timothy Tyler, who was the victim of thefts but who fought back:
“He had his pain patches taken off of him, ripped off of him, by a state-tested nursing assistant. And this occurred not just once, but numerous times. Finally one day Mr. Tyler got so upset, he chased this nurse down.” |
