Ohio Friday, July 6, 2012 Cleveland opens rec centers to help people escape the heat High temperatures cause heat advisories across Northeast Ohio, residents are urged to stay in air conditioning by WKSU's MARANDA SHREWSBERRY |
 Reporter Maranda Shrewsberry | | |
| With temperatures inching towards 100 this weekend, Northeast Ohio is hot. A heat advisory is in effect for the area until Saturday night.
Cleveland is trying to help residents keep cool by opening 15 recreation centers to the public. They are open until 8 Friday (tonight) and from 10 to 6 Saturday (tomorrow).
Karen Butler is the director of public health for Cleveland. She says people can retreat to the centers and take advantage of the services provided there. |
“They’ve got a lot of activities available – it depends on what people want to do – there’s indoor pools that are available if they so choose," she says. "But again, just getting the opportunity be inside of an air-conditioned facility really makes it helpful, and it makes our residents much more comfortable.”
Butler reminds everyone to keep hydrated and out of the sun. She says to be aware of the symptoms of heat exhaustion and keep an eye on yourself and others. |
