In The Region: The new Goodyear world headquarters on Akron’s east side will be done this coming March -- as scheduled. And developer Stuart Lichter tells WKSU’s Tim Rudell that repurposing the old Goodyear complex is set to move ahead, too, …and may be expanded. |

California-based Industrial Realty Group’s overhaul of the old Goodyear headquarters in east Akron is moving ahead and has taken on a new dimension, according to the group’s founder, Stuart Lichter. “We’ll be able to start fairly shortly on converting the Goodyear Hall building to residential. And it’s terrific because there are all sorts of amenities there. You know, there’s a full health club, a full-size gym, racquetball courts. We also are now developing plans—which I don’t think we have announced anywhere—to the south of the old Goodyear Hall, right on the highway, to build a hotel.”
Lichter’s company was a key to putting together the original $900-million dollar deal to build Goodyear’s new global headquarters on Innovation Way and to convert the old corporate offices and Goodyear Hall on East Market Street to a mixed-use complex. The two parts of the project are about a half a mile apart on either side of I-76. |
