Josh Mandel’s rapid rise in Ohio politics
The Republican U.S. Senate candidate shares his family history and life experiences and how they've prepared him for office
Story by BILL RICE
This story is part of a special series.

Josh Mandel credits his family history and Marine Corps service for instilling his core values. The 34 year-old Republican is running against Democratic incumbent Sherrod Brown for U.S. Senate.

In The Region:

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that Mandel is a former state senator.  He is a former state representative.

Ohio's U.S. Senate race is unexpectedly close this year even though it pits a relative upstart Republican against a popular Democratic veteran: Incumbent Senator Sherrod Brown, a '60s generation liberal with 36 years as an elected official faces Josh Mandel, a 34 year-old Republican with barely eight years elective experience.

This week and next we step back to hear from the candidates on how they got to be where they are now. Bill Rice of Ohio Public Radio Station WCPN begins with this profile of Josh Mandel.

Listener Comments:

Would like to know if Josh Mandel is related to Mort, Jack or
Joseph Mandel of former Premier Industrial Corp. 4415 Euclid
Ave?
I retired in 1984. Might be interested in donating to his election.
Thank- you

Sherrod Brown is an Obama twin. Mandel has to be an exemplar person or the left would severely slander him. More than likely Mandel would work with the opposition, not scapegoat and ostracize opposition.
