Sports Tuesday, June 19, 2012 Kent State and the big baseball stage Pluto: Cinderella teams have nerves, too by WKSU's M.L. SCHULTZE |
 Web Editor M.L. Schultze | | |
In The Region: Kent State beat Florida, the No. 1 seed in the College World Series, Monday and takes on the defending national champions, South Carolina tomorrow night.
There’s romance in being the Cinderella team on a national stage. But WKSU sports commentator Terry Pluto says there’s also bound to be trepidation on the part of players. |
“It’s different. I’m in the College World Series, I’m in Omaha. I’m against these teams that are always on ESPN during the regular season because they’re ranked. I’m playing against all these hot prospects, and I’m not supposed to be in that league. There was a lot of fear and a lot of trepidation that they had to fight through to win that game against Florida.”
The World Series is expecting its 8 millionth fan this year – and regularly draws more than 20,000 per game.
The winner of tomorrow (Wednesday) night’s game goes on to play Arkansas – which beat both Kent and South Carolina in the first rounds of the World Series.
