In The Region: With Stony Brook eliminated, Kent State is the Cinderella team in the College World Series. And tonight, the Golden Flashes take on the defending champion South Carolina.
WKSU sports commentator Terry Pluto says at this level, skill trumps luck and starting pitching trumps everything. |
“He gets you through six or seven innings and it’s close, well then suddenly, weird things can happen: umpires calls, balls lost in the sun, two outfielders running into each other. Those all matter. If what happens is, like in their opening game where they got behind early, well then the breaks can’t bail you out.”
The starting pitcher Wednesday night is expected to be Tyler Skulina, a Northeast Ohio native who transferred from Virginia to Kent. The winner of tomorrow’s game will play Arkansas, which has beaten both Kent and South Carolina in the tournament.
