Sports Tuesday, June 19, 2012 Kent State beats Florida 5-4 Golden Flashes survive elimination in the College World Series by squeaking out a win against no.1 Gators Story by GREG ECHLIN |
| | |
In The Region: Not since the Kent State men’s basketball team made its run to the Elite Eight ten years ago has a Golden Flash team made this much of an impact on the national scene.
The Golden Flashes baseball team held off the University of Florida, 5-4, last night to remain alive at the College World Series in Omaha.
Greg Echlin reports from Omaha, Kent State’s first-ever appearance in the College World Series didn’t start out too promising. |
Kent State coach Steve Stricklin knew there were doubts about his team’s chances to succeed in Omaha, especially after Saturday’s 8-1 loss in the double elimination tournament.
By the time the Golden Flashes were ready to bounce back yesterday against Florida, the other Cinderella team in the College World Series—Stony Brook of New York—had already dropped its first two games and departed.
After eliminating the Gators, the overall number-1 seed in the tournament, the Golden Flashes must now play two-time defending champion South Carolina tomorrow night. |
