Health and Medicine Friday, June 15, 2012 Federal money will boost child healthcare in Ohio Proponents say it will impove care and cut costs Story by SIMON HUSTED |
| | |
In The Region: The feds today approved a $13 million grant to extend health services to some 200,000 more children in Ohio.
The grants will be going to Akron Children’s Hospital and Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus.
Norman Christopher, the chairman of Akron Children’s Department of Pediatrics, says the grant will cover specialty areas including mental health, premature births and complicated health problems. |
“It moves us from a system where we’re reactive to one where we’re proactive. One where we care about individual patients to one where we care very much about overall health of our population. So this is a move towards what we would consider important reform in the way healthcare is delivered.”
In all, the Partners for Kids program in Ohio will now serve more than half a million children in 46 of Ohio’s 88 counties.
