Health and Medicine Wednesday, June 13, 2012 New report shows Ohio is a leader in clinical trials The report shows almost half of the trials done target diabetes and other major diseases by WKSU's STATEHOUSE CORRESPONDENT JO INGLES |
 Reporter Jo Ingles | | |
| Ohio is a leader when it comes to clinical trials of treatments to deal with various illnesses. A new report by the drug industry group, Pharma, shows almost half of the trials conducted in Ohio during the last 13 years target major diseases like asthma, cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes and mental illnesses. Andy Doehral, head of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, says this news is not only good for patients but also the state’s bottom line. |
“In Ohio, biopharmaceutical companies invested more than 700 million dollars in research and development of new medicines since 1999. Thanks to the support of this industry, Ohio’s economy will continue to grow with these types of investments and the support of great research institutions. The bottom line is we all need to be more aware of the impact and benefits of our pharmaceutical industry for our state.”
The report shows, since 1999, about five thousand clinical trials of new medicines have been conducted in Ohio. |
