Politics Wednesday, June 13, 2012 Gov. Kasich visits the Ohio Senate to thank senators Kasich thanks the senators for passing his update and calls for bipartisanship by WKSU's STATEHOUSE BUREAU CHIEF KAREN KASLER |
 Reporter Karen Kasler | | |
| Gov. John Kasich was supposed to be on a conference call with reporters this afternoon, in support of Mitt Romney a day before President Obama comes to Cleveland. But instead, he made a surprise visit to the Ohio Senate to thank the Republican-dominated body for passing his big budget update. Statehouse correspondent Karen Kasler was there. |
While Senators waited in recess for some bills to come over from the House, Gov. Kasich stopped by the chamber to thank them for passing several elements of his mid-biennium review – and to call for bipartisanship.
“To my Democrat colleagues, you come see me. And to my Republican colleagues, thanks for putting up with some of the pushing and the shoving that we do.”
Senate Minority Leader Eric Kearney of Cincinnati said Democrats did go see Kasich about their Forward Ohio jobs bill, and he didn’t adopt any of the ideas in that bill.
“Bipartisanship, at least from where I come from, involves a conversation and it involves input from both sides and I’m disappointed that that has not occurred.”
The governor will be joined by Senate President Tom Niehaus and House Speaker Bill Batchelder for a long session with reporters Thursday to go over the budget update. |
