The business tied to a 23-state salmonella outbreak says it shares the community's concern and is working with investigators.

Mt. Healthy Hatcheries in Springfield Township near Cincinnati says it's collaborating with the Ohio Department of Agriculture and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to find the cause of the outbreak.

The CDC reports 93 cases of salmonella infection have been tied to the hatchery and possibly one death.

Mt. Healthy Hatcheries operates a mail-order chick and duckling business. It's believed the outbreak spread by people handling mail-ordered animals.

Statement from Mt. Healthy Hatcheries:

“Clearly, any time there is a death or illnesses, it is tragic, and we share the public’s concern.

“Mt. Healthy Hatcheries is working collaboratively with authorities at the Ohio Department of Agriculture and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as they proceed with their investigation.

“We are and will continue to work with suppliers of hatching eggs and chicks purchased by Mt. Healthy Hatcheries to ensure we can provide safe, healthy chicks for our customers. We also will continue to educate consumers on proper care and handling of those animals.”
