Government Friday, April 27, 2012 Kasich confident lawmakers will approve tax shift plan Despite the hold up in the Statehouse, Kasich says he expects approval by the end of the year by WKSU's STATEHOUSE CORRESPONDENT BILL COHEN |
 Reporter Bill Cohen | | |
| Ohio legislators are not holding any committee hearings at all on Gov. John Kasich’s proposal to raise severance taxes on oil and gas drillers. Still, Kasich insists lawmakers will eventually okay his plan. |
Ohio’s current tax on oil and gas drilling is reportedly one of the nation’s lowest. The governor proposes raising it, and using the revenue to pay for a cut in the state income tax. He says the lower rate may help attract more companies — and their jobs.
The Columbus and Cincinnati Chambers of Commerce have recently endorsed the proposed tax shift. |
