Ohio Thursday, April 26, 2012 Ohio Gov. Kasich warns lawmakers more spending is "not acceptable" GOP lawmakers give more to nursing homes and suggest more for cities and schools by WKSU's STATEHOUSE CORRESPONDENT BILL COHEN |
 Reporter Bill Cohen | | |
In The Region: It doesn’t happen often, but Gov. John Kasich is frustrated at his fellow Republicans in the Legislature for two reasons.
First, GOP state representatives have voted to give nursing homes 30 million extra state dollars. And second, the Republican lawmakers are leaving the door open to spending part of a growing budget surplus on schools and cities later this year. The governor begins his critique with a laugh. |
“We just came out of an $8 billion hole. We were dying economically and now that people start seeing some daylight, people start thinking, ‘Well, how can we go back to spending again?’ That’s just not acceptable.”
If the final version of a budget adjustment bill that legislators are working on includes new spending the governor opposes, Kasich has the power to block it with a veto.
