United Airlines reported a first-quarter net loss today of 286 million dollars. Although passenger revenue was up slightly, the airline, cited fuel costs and costs associated with merging with Continental Airlines this year as reasons for the loss. The combined airline has 8 hubs in the U.S., the smallest of which is at Cleveland Hopkins airport.

    CVNP fire
A suburban Cleveland fire chief says firefighters dragged water hoses hundreds of feet through the woods to extinguish a blaze in a train car at a national park. The Brecksville fire chief tells Channel 5 the flames in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park were reported Wednesday, shortly before midnight. The area has no fire hydrants, so firefighters used hoses that were linked to water tanks and carried through the woods to reach the scene. The flames engulfed one train car, but firefighters stopped them from reaching a second car. It wasn't immediately clear whether the cars were part of the scenic railroad that runs through the 33,000-acre park.No injuries were reported. The fire chief says the blaze is suspicious and the cause is under investigation.

    Nightclub owner indicted
An Akron-area nightclub owner has been indicted in federal court on 50 counts of tax evasion, U.S. attorneys said Wednesday.Antonio “Jeff” Lorenzo is also accused in U.S. District Court on one count of conspiracy. His companies’ bookkeeper, Kristen Smyers, is also facing a conspiracy charge. The charges stem from the unreported income of about $746,000 and non-payment of taxes of more than $200,000.Lorenzo is accused of paying some employees in cash and not taxing their wages between 2006 and 2010.He ran the Posh and Lux nightclubs in Akron, and the Platinum Horse and Mars Men’s Club.
