Government Thursday, April 19, 2012 More executions loom in Ohio State resumes after six month lull by WKSU's STATEHOUSE CORRESPONDENT BILL COHEN |
 Reporter Bill Cohen | | |
In The Region: Now that Ohio has executed a convicted murderer after a six month lull in executions, the state faces a full schedule of lethal injections over the next 20 months. The scheduled executions of Mark Wiles and others on death row were initially postponed by federal judge Gregory Frost. He said Ohio’s execution team had failed to follow its own protocol in earlier executions. Later, the judge relented…and allowed Wiles’ lethal injection to take place Wednesday. Now, state corrections department spokeswoman JoEllen Smith says many more executions are scheduled. She talked with statehouse correspondent Bill Cohen. |
| During Wednesday’s lethal injection of Mark Wiles, Ohio’s execution team took special steps to make sure the execution protocol was being followed. The upcoming 11 executions on the schedule are being spaced out at least 45 days apart to give the team and administrators time to focus on each one. |
