Lifestyle Tuesday, April 17, 2012 Cleveland diocese will allow a dozen churches to reopen Bishop Lennon won't appeal Vatican ruling, but says reopening the parishes could take months by WKSU's KEVIN NIEDERMIER |

 | | Bishop Richard Lennon says he'll live with a Vatican ruling that will reopen a dozen churches in the Cleveland diocese, but a shortage of money and priests will continue to cause problems. |
In The Region: The bishop of the Cleveland Catholic diocese is reopening a dozen churches he shut down over the past three years. But he says it could be months before some of those churches will hold services again.
Bishop Richard Lennon said at a press conference this morning that he will not appeal a rare Vatican decision overruling the church closures. He says an appeal would cause too much uncertainty and continue to divide the diocese.
In all, Lennon closed 50 churches, citing financial problems and a drop in priests and parishioners. And he said this morning that those problems will continue as the dozen churches in the Cleveland and Akron areas prepare to reopen. He said some of the churches may have to share priests. |
