In The Region: The Cleveland Museum of Art is worth $140 million dollars a year to Cuyahoga County, according to a new study. The impact study released today says the arts institution draws 300,000 visitors a year, many from outside the area, and is responsible for some 700 jobs. Cleveland Economic Development Director Chris Warren says the art museum is also a calling card on overseas trade missions: |
“Whether that’s Bulgaria or Costa Rica or China or Japan or France, … every time on every visit we’ve made in just the last few years, the Cleveland museum of art is on the lips of the people we speak to in a very positive way about our region.”
The art museum is wrapping up a 350-million dollar renovation and expansion. After it is completed by the end of next year, museum officials predict the number of visitors will double to 600-thousand a year.
