Ohio Friday, April 13, 2012 Bennett wants to make Ohio a "winner-take-all" state All the state's delegates would go to candidate with the most votes by WKSU's STATEHOUSE CORRESPONDENT JO INGLES |
 Reporter Jo Ingles | | |
| Newly elected Ohio Republican Party Chair Bob Bennett says it’s time for his party to change the way in which the state awards delegates to presidential candidates. |
“My desire is and I think there is a desire in the legislature that we move the primary back to May and we will be a winner-take-all in the future,” he says.
Right now, Ohio divides the delegates roughly proportionally to the percentage of the vote they got in the primary. Other states, such as Florida, award all the delegates to the candidate that got the most votes.
In March, G.O.P. frontrunner Mitt Romney got three times as many delegates as his closest challenger Rick Santorum. Santorum suspended his candidacy earlier this week and it’s not yet clear where his Ohio delegates will go.
