Crime and Courts Friday, April 6, 2012 Firefighter pleads not guilty to fraud Man allegedly paid colleagues to cover more than 4,000 hours of shifts Story by GRANT ENGLE |
| | |
In The Region: A retired Cleveland firefighter has pleaded not guilty to allegedly paying coworkers cash to cover more than 4,000 hours of shifts while still collecting his salary.
Timothy Debarr faces one count of soliciting or receiving improper compensation.
Cuyahoga County assistant prosecutor Paul Soucie said Debarr’s actions indirectly cost taxpayers money. |
“If we think for a moment about an individual who is getting benefits, accruing length of service benefits, be it a pension or anything else for thousands of hours that they were not actually working the job, there is some additional loss to the taxpayers because of that.”
Debarr posted bond and has agreed to cooperate with the remainder of the investigation. |
