New casino proposed in Northfield
Feds say Perry nuclear plant has ongiong problems
|
New casino proposed in Northfield Northfield Park is partnering with Hard Rock Entertainment to build a new casino in Summit County. The proposed 275 million dollar facility will include slot machines as well as a Hard Rock Café and other restaurants. Representatives from Northfield Park and Hard Rock say they’ll create around a thousand permanent jobs and over a thousand more construction jobs with the new casino. All of the plans hinge on the resolution of litigation about the legality of video lottery terminals in Ohio. Ohio has moved closer to the debut of casino gambling by issuing its first employee license to a security guard hired by the Cleveland casino opening May 14. License No. 1 was presented yesterday to 28-year-old Taneshia Pitts of Cleveland.Pitts has been working as a security guard just across the street with the Cavs owned by Dan Gilbert, a casino partner. The commission has approved more than 1,100 licenses and is investigating more than 500 other casino applicants.
Feds say Perry nuclear plant has ongiong problems Regulators say several minor problems found at an Ohio nuclear power plant in 2011 have been ongoing for about two years. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission says the Perry Nuclear Power Plant near Cleveland must devise a plan to correct the problems. In a March 5 letter, a regulator says plant owner First Energy and federal inspectors found errors in following proper work procedures and documentation. The letter also cites an incident in April, 2011 when a poorly designed plan to pull a radiation monitor from the reactor's core left workers near a radioactive cable. The crew escaped exposure by leaving the area quickly. A First Energy spokeswoman tells The Plain Dealer that the company has strengthened procedures and improved risk assessment and oversight. |
