Economy and Business Tuesday, December 13, 2011 Production still suspended at GM Lordstown plant General Motors officials have halted production of the Chevy Cruze due to a parts shortage by WKSU's ALISON RITCHIE |
 Reporter Alison Ritchie | | |
| Production at the General Motors plant in Lordstown is still suspended, and officials have not announced when it will resume. The plant that produces the Chevy Cruze sent its second shift home Monday, after the company cited a parts shortage.
Bill Visnic is an analyst for Edmunds Auto Observer. He says if the company had to halt production, this was the best month to do it. |
“Traditionally, the seasonality of car sales actually points to a slowdown of small car sales toward the end of the year," said Visnic. "Basically, people who buy small cars tend to be look toward other things at the end of December primarily Christmas present and other expenditures related to the holidays.”
Visnic says Cruzes have been selling quickly since August, so there is not a lot of inventory. He adds that if the suspension is for a short period of time, it’s unlikely it will impact future sales. |
