 | | Engineers do preliminary tests in Lake Erie in preparation for what they hope will be the nation's first off-shore wind farm. | | Courtesy of Jeff St. Clair | Supporters of the clean energy industry are saying state standards put in place three years ago are already improving Ohio’s economy. Senate Bill 221 requires Ohio utility companies to produce a certain percentage of their energy from renewable sources – with a goal of 22 percent by 2025.
Steve Caminati is the director of the Ohio Business Council for a Clean Economy. He says SB 221 helped to create an attractive and competitive market and policymakers should focus on gains made in the industry. |
Ohio is currently home to one of the largest solar farms east of the Mississippi and is also trying to develop the nation’s first off-shore wind farm on Lake Erie. Gov. John Kasich will host a summit at the end of next month to discuss Ohio’s energy policy. |
