Government Friday, August 12, 2011 Ohio closing its foreign offices Development director says communication technology allows employees to travel part-time and still maintain foreign presence by WKSU's STATEHOUSE CORRESPONDENT BILL COHEN |
 Reporter Bill Cohen | | |
| Ohio is closing its foreign trade offices. A staff of 19 ran the offices, which are located across the globe in an effort to open foreign markets to Ohio companies and convince them to relocate here. But Governor John Kasich plans to cut the staff, and keep them in Ohio. The state development director Chris Schmenk says Ohio’s new privatized development effort, called Jobs Ohio, can do the task of global outreach better than the overseas offices. |
The Global Markets Division in the state development department has been allotted 3.5 million dollars this year. Ohio has had trade offices in Canada, Mexico, Belgium, Chile, Brazil, Israel, South Africa, Southeast Asia, China, Japan, and India. |
