Government Wednesday, August 10, 2011 Ziegler struggles to find insurer Stark County Treasurer Gary Ziegler needs to find an insurance company that will issue him a state-required bond by WKSU's DAWN EINSEL |
 Reporter Dawn Einsel | | |
| Stark County’s once-ousted treasurer has more problems now that he’s back on the job. No insurance company has been willing to issue Gary Ziegler a state-required bond. He returned to office in June, when the Ohio Supreme Court ruled that county commissioners removed him from office without a proper hearing. Commissioners held Zeigler responsible for his chief deputy stealing nearly $3 million. Assistant Stark County Prosecutor Ross Rhodes says a company that had agreed to issue a bond for twice the price of Zeigler’s last one backed out earlier this week and he’s unclear what the next step will be. |
Zeigler cannot resume full treasurer duties without the bond that guarantees that public funds are protected. |
