Ohio Friday, July 29, 2011 Poll says Americans want Congress to focus on jobs A poll from the Alliance for American Manufacturing says Americans want Congress to focus on job creation and not government spending by WKSU's VALERIE BROWN |
 Reporter Valerie Brown | | |
| A new poll by the Alliance for American Manufacturing says twice as many Americans want Congress to focus on job creation as on government spending. |
The Alliance started as an advocacy group by the U.S. steel industry and steelworkers’ unions, and Executive Director Scott Paul says the survey shows concern for manufacturing jobs is widespread and growing. But he says the debate over the debt ceiling has been “taken hostage” by some members of Congress and is distracting lawmakers.
Paul says government should focus on balancing trade with China, ending tax incentives for companies that move production overseas, and investing in workers and manufacturing firms.
But, the National Federation for Independent Business says its members want government to lower taxes, cut regulations and not increase spending as a way to spur job growth. |
