Sports Wednesday, May 18, 2011 Cavs win 1st draft pick The Cavaliers will get the first and fourth June 23 draft picks after winning Tuesday's lottery by WKSU's AMANDA RABINOWITZ |

 | | Kyrie Irving in December 2010 | | Courtesy of Flickr | The Cleveland Cavaliers are now looking forward to next month’s draft after winning Tuesday night’s lottery. The Cavs will get the first and fourth picks in the June 23 draft, energizing fans that saw their team tumble to the second worst record in the NBA after losing LeBron James to Miami last summer.
Commentator Terry Pluto says the Cavs are sure to pick Duke freshman point guard Kyrie Irving, who played just 11 games for the Blue Devils, sitting out with a toe injury. But Pluto says Irving showed character when he returned to play in what turned out to be Duke’s last game in the NCAA tournament.
The last time the Cavs had a number one pick was 2003, when they selected LeBron James. |
