Akron mom's school conviction is being reviewed
Gov. Kasich asked for the parole board's  recommendation on clemency for Kelly Williams-Bolar
Story by PHIL TORRES

In The Region:

The state Parole Board could decide by the end of this week to recommend clemency for an Akron mother who falsified documents to get her children into a suburban school district.

Kelly Williams-Bolar was convicted of a felony in January, and sentenced to 10 days in jail, three years probation and 80 hours of community service. Her case was championed internationally by groups on the political left and right, including advocates of school choice and school desegregation. Gov. John Kasich has said he thinks Williams-Bolar’s treatment may have been unfair and asked the parole board to investigate.

State prisons spokesman Carlo LoParo says the board could make a recommendation to the governor next week or schedule a full hearing to consider the matter further.

If the parole board does opt for a full hearing, it will open to the public, and LoParo says a decision usually is rendered within two months.

Listener Comments:

Clemency should not even be considered until Ms. Williams acknowledges guilt and shows remorse. She should also be investigated by the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority and the Ohio Bureau of Job and Family Services for fraud.

Stupid, heartless comments like these just make me more convinced that conservatives are evil people. Drop dead.
