Interim school CEO Peter Raskind and the board of education outlined a plan on Tuesday to save 72 million dollars during the next school year. The auditorium was filled with teachers and other employees, many of whom had been laid off earlier in the day. But the most intense comments came regarding the 7 schools being closed. Raskind says that will save 2 million in operating costs, plus whatever the buildings are sold for. But parents like Donna Walker-Brown disagree.
Raskind says his goal is to avoid a 47.5 million dollar deficit coming next year, as required by state law. The schools closing include Margaret Ireland, Capt. Arthur Roth, Union and Woodland Hills. |
