Northeast Ohio’s natural gas prices are expected to drop in the near future despite a cold winter and the increasing demand of a recovering economy.
Neil Durbin of Dominion East Ohio says new low-cost method of drilling called hydraulic fracturing – or fracking-- is helping to keep natural gas supplies high and prices low. |
But environmentalists are concerned that the process used to break the gas free from a massive shale formation that spans the Appalachians may poison underground water supplies.
The Ohio House considering a bill introduced this week that would open Ohio’s state parks to oil and gas drilling. And Gov. John Kasich says the shale drilling could be a huge boon to the state and keep gas prices lower. |
