Crime and Courts Wednesday, January 26, 2011 Akron launches record-clearing program City of Akron and University of Akron hope to help felons clear records to increase chances of getting hired by WKSU's JEFF ST. CLAIR |

As Ohio’s unemployment rate can attest, finding a job for anyone these days is not easy. And it’s made a lot more difficult by a felony record.
So the City of Akron and the University of Akron law school are launching an effort to provide free legal services to help residents clear their records. Program director Aviva Wilcher says a criminal record can lead to a cascade of other issues for first time offenders. |
Ohio’s law requires people convicted of one non-violent felony to wait three years after their jail-term to begin the process of expunging their record. Those with misdemeanors have to wait a year.
