Economy and Business Tuesday, January 4, 2011 House Republicans plan tax breaks Incentives to slow brain drain, unemployment by WKSU's STATEHOUSE CORRESPONDENT BILL COHEN |
 Reporter Bill Cohen | | |
| Ohioans who earn college degrees here and stay here for awhile won’t have to pay any state income tax for five years…that is, if Republicans who now control the Ohio House of Representatives get their way. Bill Batchelder of Medina is the new Speaker of the House. He says this tax credit plan could help slow Ohio’s “brain drain.” It’s one of two tax break ideas that GOP legislators want to make a priority to help boost the economy. |
Another priority of the new Republican majority in the legislature is repealing Ohio’s estate tax. GOP lawmakers insist they can lower some taxes at the same time that they fill a projected 8 to 10 billion dollar budget shortfall. |
