In The Region: Garfield Heights is re-assessing the city’s financial picture
following this week’s news that voters did pass the city’s first a trash collection fee. Late overseas and provisional ballots broke the tie vote from election night and will allow the city to collect 180-dollars per year per household for trash pickup. The extra money is important for Garfield Heights, which is trying to climb out of fiscal emergency and escape state control of its finances. City Law Director Tim Riley……

This month’s election did not completely go in favor of Garfield Heights’ bottom line. Voters passed a referendum that forbade the city from using red-light traffic cameras to issue tickets, forcing the city to disconnect the cameras is has been using to collect thousands of dollars.
Riley says at this point, the city's considering no additional taxes or fees. |
