Environment Friday, October 29, 2010 Officials declare Ohio lake safe from toxins Recent samples show algae blooms diminishing by WKSU's M.L. SCHULTZE |

The lake that triggered toxic algae warnings throughout Ohio has been declared safe.
Based on samples taken last week, Grand Lake St. Marys in northwest Ohio is no longer under a toxin advisory. In June, the state first issued a warning that people should have no contact with the water in Ohio’s largest inland lake because of massive algae blooms that contained neurotoxins.
The advisories soon spread to about a dozen lakes around the state. Advisories now remain at just two: Wingfoot Lake in Portage County and Lake Alma State Park.
Cooler weather generally cuts down on algae blooms. |
