Government Monday, September 27, 2010 Cleveland's urban garden expansion City council tries to expand production and sale of innercity farm produce by WKSU's KEVIN NIEDERMIER |
 Reporter Kevin Niedermier | | |
In The Region: Cleveland City Council will consider legislation today (Mon.) to boost the city’s urban gardening movement. Councilman Joe Cimperman, who’s sponsoring the legislation, says Cleveland is already a friendly place for urban farms and gardens. But his legislation will make it even easier by including these gardens in the city’s residential zoning code. |
Cimperman is also wants to turn part of Willard Park next to City Hall into an urban garden. He is co-sponsoring legislation authorizing the city to
lease the plot to the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
The garden would provide employment for adults with developmental challenges. Cimperman says Cleveland already has about 250 urban
farms and gardens…ranking it second in the nation. Minneapolis, Minnesota ranks first. |
