WKSU News: Portage Park District purchases 504 acres near Shalersville

The property was once part of an international freight airport, will become nature conservatory

The Portage Park District is buying 504 acres east of Streetsboro that will become the county's largest park. The parcel was once part of an international freight airport and will now become a conservatory for hiking and bird watching. Portage Park District Executive Director Christine Craycroft says that the district will focus on preservation of the land now, but hopes to open it to the public in the future.

Craycroft says the park district used grants and other outside donations to cover the nearly $2.4 million cost of the property.
