Summit County Board of Elections making cuts, lay-offs
Board also looking to establish bi-weekly furloughs
WKSU's M.L. Schultze reports
The Summit County Board of Elections is laying off two people and won't be filling two other jobs that are, or soon will be, vacant. And Summit County Board of Elections Director Mary Jane Donofrio said the elections board also is considering mandatory one-day furloughs every two weeks.
"The board is also looking at possibly going to a 72-hour pay period, as opposed to 80 hours. We're going to talk to the staff, see how that's received and then the board will go from there," Donofrio said.
The board also is cutting part-timers' wages by two dollars an hour. The costs of Summit County's elections board run far higher that those in Ohio's other nine large counties, including Cuyahoga, Stark, and Mahoning.
