Restoring the Stan Hywet Hall organ takes time, imagination and a slender build

Aeolian will be played Sunday for first time in decades

Think of it as a $500,000 stereo system standing thee stories tall. After years of silence, the 1915 Aeolian organ will sound again Sunday in the modestly called -- and opulently appointed -- music room of Stan Hywet Hall.

The Aeolian organ in Stan Hywet's music room has more than 2,000 pipes
Stephen Leslie does the final tuneup of the rebuilt Aeolian organ
Rollers of music made the instrument playable regardless of skill
The Aeolian console is permanently attached to the floor of the music hall
The pipes occupy a space 27 feet tall and range in size from 16 feet to a fraction of an inch.
The organ was far from the only music in Stan Hywet Hall. Musicians performed from a balcony above the music room
The larger organ pipes are made of wood, smaller ones of zinc and lead
