Government Monday, January 26, 2009 Mayor Jackson voices concerns about convention site He wants city council and public to be aware of potential problems by WKSU's KEVIN NIEDERMIER |
 Reporter Kevin Niedermier | | |
| Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson is not completely sold on the evolving deal to build a new downtown convention center and medical equipment exhibition hall. And he's outlining issues he believes need to be closely watched. |
| Mayor Jackson stressed his support for building a new convention center and medical equipment exhibition hall on the city owned site of the old convention center. But he wants city council to know everything about the project, because it must approve the deal.
Cuyahoga County and private partner Merchandise Mart are hammering out a development agreement in which the company is supposed to pays cost overruns on the estimated $425-million project. Jackson says the outcome of the company's engineering study showing the facility can be built on the waterlogged land $108-million less than first estimated. Jackson says review of that study must be close.
