Listener Comments:
Mr. Salerno's statement is flawed with his assumption of Hiram being the home of predominantly young liberal students. Quite historically, Hiram was the starting job for a Republican president (Garfield) and has been an excellent forum for discussion on both sides of the aisle. Frankly, Hiram Republicans are more abundant that Hiram Democrats - we just prefer to let the liberals kick and scream instead of embarrass ourselves, hence the word "conservative." As a Hiram alum and a strong GOP supporter (as well as one who holds the Hiram Poli Sci Dept and Prof. Johnson with the highest professional regard), I feel it imperative to make mention of this misconception of one of the finest Ohio "liberal" arts institutions. Leave the generalizations to the democrats - that's what they do best. Sarah Palin is a great choice, a proven statesperson and an excellent example to not just nuclear family mothers, but to single mothers looking for proof that they too can do more than survive, but succeed. Enough with the media slams to her family. Let's talk about the issues, for God's sake... That's the only thing Obama has right, in my opinion. Posted by: Jeff (Akron, OH) on September 2, 2008 7:31PM
Isn't it ironic that you are only turning around and stooping to the same level by bashing someones opinions. As a matter of fact there are as many conservatives as there are liberals here at Hiram - Professor Johnson works very well with both groups.

If Sara Pallin is a mistake(she is great which is why the dems are trying to destroy her with their attack politics) then so is Obama and the dems have him heading their ticket. Just proves the old demo adage that as long as you are liberal it doesn't matter how bad you are. The dems should be ashamed of themselves for stooping so low. NPR is nothing more than another part of the demo publicity machine. Hiram was always a breeding ground of left wing ideology. So it is no surprise that a poly sci prof would be following the demo talking points. Posted by: James Salerno (Plantation, Florida 33317) on September 1, 2008 10:55AM
